Sunum Özeti
In this talk, we focus on a group of mathematical programming problems encountered in machine learning applications such as speech recognition,image processing, and text classification. These problems are typically large scale and nonlinear; however, they generally have special mathematical structures. We discuss how problem structure can be exploited, and tools from large scale optimization can be adapted to design efficient algorithms to solve these problems. Then, we switch our emphasis to the use of computational resources, and discuss strategies for the development of parallel algorithms.
Kısa Biyografi
Figen Oztoprak is a postdoctoral researcher at Sabanci University Industrial Engineering Department. Her research interests are in nonlinear programming and its applications; more specifically, in the development of sequential and parallel algorithms for large-scale continuous optimization problems. She received her Ph.D. from Sabanci University in 2011, and was a research fellow at Northwestern University between 2010-2012. She has participated in research projects supported by TUBITAK and NSF, and received a TUBITAK Career grant in 2013.
